PARENT SEATS ON THE BOARD

PARENT SEATS ON THE BOARD

Will parents serve on the Board?

95% of parents in our workshops said they wanted at least half of Board members to be parents.

The new law does not guarantee parent seats on the board like LSC elections do. While parents may run, running a campaign can be time-consuming and extremely expensive. Once a member is elected, the position is unpaid.

It is likely that candidates will have a leg up if they can finance their own campaigns, are supported by special interest groups, and have plenty of free time.

In short, the typical winning candidate is unlikely to look like an average CPS parent.
