Will the elected school board look like our students?
The Chicago Board of Education will transition from an appointed school board to a fully elected board by 2027.
- 10 members will be elected from districts in 2024.
- 10 more members will be elected from districts and one president will be elected citywide in 2026.
- Lawmakers will create those new districts by July 1, 2023.
How these districts are drawn will help determine the racial makeup of the new school board. Parents we surveyed overwhelmingly said it is critical that the new school board should be representative of CPS’s racial diversity.
